Consumer Affairs and Fair Business Practices, South 24 Parganas Regional Office under Directorate of Consumer Affairs; Fair Business Practices, Government of West Bengal.

Activity and function of the department/Section:

The function of Consumer Affairs and Fair Business Practices South 24 Parganas Regional Office is to protect the rights and interests of consumers in the district of South 24 Parganas, West Bengal. The office is responsible for:

  • Registering and investigating consumer complaints against unfair trade practices, defective goods and services, and other violations of consumer rights.

  • Conducting consumer awareness camps, seminars, street corners, display of banners, hoardings, plying of tableau etc. to educate the consumers about their rights and responsibilities, and how to seek redressal in case of grievances.
  • Coordinating with other government agencies, NGOs, consumer organizations, and media to promote consumer welfare and awareness.
  • Implementing various schemes and programs of the state government and the central government related to consumer protection and empowerment.
  • Providing free of cost legal assistance in litigation in the DCDRC/SCDRC/NCDRC to the aggrieved petitioner through “Consumer Assistance Bureau” under this office
  • Providing free of cost legal assistance in litigation in the DCDRC/SCDRC/NCDRC to the aggrieved petitioner through “Consumer Assistance Bureau” under this office
