Gangasagar Mela 2024

The mentions of the ritual of Gangasagar can be found as early as the “Mahabharatas” and the “Ramayana” establishing it to date back to around 400 BCE. Every year millions of Pilgrims set off on this journey at the auspicious time of Makar Sankranti. Literary masterpieces dating back to the 5th Century like “Raghubangsham”, by Maha Kabi Kalidas has reference to the devotional journey of Gangasagar. Since the Satya Yuga this journey to the Sagar Island is interweaved with a sense of faith and moksha. This is a legacy older than time that is still being carried on in order for trudging souls to find peace and nirvana.
