Literacy Section, South 24 Parganas

Activity and function of the Department/ Section:

• The objective of the programme is to reduce illiteracy, especially among women and the programme be undertaken in the district through S.H.G. run by the women of Panchayat & Rural Deptt.

• To select Master Trainer (M.T.) and Volunteer Trainer (V.T.) for running off the centre.

• To identify the learners who will participate in the programme.

• To select learners from S.H.G's / S.G.S.Y run by women in the G.P. area to set up centres for continuing education with funds from Panchayats.

• To ensure that the Monthly Progress Report (M.P.R.) of the programme be sent to the concerned B.D.O. by the G.P.s on the 3rd of every month.

• To ensure that the M.P.R. of B.D.O.s is received at the office by the 4th of each month.

• To ensure that M.P.R.s of B.D.O.s were compiled in Section and sent to Director by 5th of each month.

• Timely disposal of various instructions received from Director, Mass Education Extension.

• To correspondence with B.D.O.s about the progress of the programme.1

• To sub-allot funds to B.D.O.s for implementation of the programme with the help of Gram Panchayat.

• Time to timely submission of performance report to the Director, M.E.E./ District Magistrate.

• Observance of International Literacy Day on 8th September each year.

• Time to time meeting with the Block level Officers to follow up on the literacy programme.

• Preparation of Performance Report to the Asstt. Director, Bureau of Applied Economics & Statistics, Govt. of West Bengal, South 24-Parganas for inclusion in the District Handbook.

All the Scheme/Other Programmes with guidelines received from Mass Education Extension and Library Services Department and as an implementing authority Zilla Saksharata Samity have implemented them all at the Block/GP level. Some Awareness Leaflets, Posters etc. are attached separately.
